“It’s not what happens, it’s how you react that matters.” – Epictetus
You can be the master of your own emotions or you can enslave yourself to others’ emotions. This does not mean that I do not get hurt emotionally, but my recovery is faster due to the vengeful attitude that I have on my own pitiful yesterday.
In the mid 80’s, I was the Captain of the Kapson Sports Club Cricket Team of Edakochi, a quiet hamlet of Ernakulam, Kerala. I was Right Arm Fast and a middle order batsman with aggressive composure. Sports Illustrated and Sports Today were my fav mags. Always read the Indian Express from the last page to the first. Just like any other youngster. Too much of Adrenaline and Dopamine gushing through the veins.
Then slowly when the burden of life and professional expectations started weighing more, the sports aspirations took a back seat. Now I don’t know when that craze for sports fizzled out. Well, I secretly loved sports and kept a tab on Cricket, Football, Handball, Hockey and Basketball, though not religiously followed any of them.
Last week when India lost to a seasoned winner Australia, I did not feel my heart and hopes crushed. I was and I am well balanced in my emotions. I do not take losses to the heart. I had a hearty laugh at the outbursts of people who were angry. Leaving the 11 players on the field, rest of the population had some analysis to share – How they should have played or how they should have contained Australia.
We won the last World Cup on 02 Apr 2011 under the captaincy of Mahi. We have happily lived for 4615 days. We celebrated 659 weekends. Most importantly 12 years, 7 months & 18 days we have seen Sun shining bright. Then as an Investor and Investment Advisor I had approximately 2555 Stock Market Days.
Now comes the biggest question, “Did you win a World Cup of Small Cap in these days waiting for that prestigious cup to come home?” I did it and some of my investors won it big time too. Cups or no Cups, they have smiled more brighter with every passing year for over 12 years.

These are mindboggling numbers of growth. Unparalleled exponential returns on investments. We often forget that our over-the-top reaction to any national issue could have long lasting damages to Health, Wealth and Happiness. Isliye Advisor Zaroori hai!!
Now that the Cricket World Cup is done and dusted, let us look forward to something more constructive than damaging. The next World Cup is in 4 years from now. What will be the growth of these funds when the next Cricket World Cup is played again? A back of the envelop calculation points out to a staggering 18 – 20% more growth per annum. Have you ever thought about creating a Dhoni again in the next 12 years?
Start SIP in a Small Cap and send your kid to a Cricket Academy for the best coaching. One is sure to happen, if everything goes well, you will have a Dhoni and Dhan.

09 Jan 2011, I was filling up an application form for my younger son Phinnaues (3 yrs 10 months old). While I was engrossed in the form filling, Mr. Nihar Ranjan came to the office for his Vehicle Insurance and my staff solicited his business. All of a suddenly he asked me, “Mr. Antony, what are you doing with that Reliance (now Nippon) form?”
“I am doing a ₹1000 SIP for my son. I am confident about the fund doing well by the time he is 18.” I said and continued to fill the form.
“What are the requirements for this SIP thing?”
I told him, what all I need and he walked away.
He returned with all the required documents on 27Jan2011. When I quipped, “Are you sure, that you want start with a Small Cap Fund?” His answer surprised me.
“Being a Financial Advisor, if you are doing that for your kid, I might as well the same for my child too.”
Logic of Deductions and Behavioral Science had played a huge role here in his decision making.
Today Nihar has a valuation of ₹13,53,420 by investing only ₹2,71,000 with a handsome growth of 399%. My son’s investment has grown by 486% translating into ₹8,85,928 on a ₹1,51,000 investment.
Cups or No Cups, Small Cap, which I love to compare with all formats of Cricket game, will win big time for you, if given enough time.
